FAQ: Everything You Want to Know Before You Call Us

  • We're a film and photo production company based in Frankfurt. We do three things: full productions (commercials, fashion campaigns, brand films, music videos), service production for international teams shooting in Germany and Europe, and production consulting at any stage of a project. Green production consulting is also available on its own.

  • Our home base is Frankfurt, but we go where the project goes: across Germany, Europe and beyond. For service productions we're a strong local partner for teams coming to shoot in Germany.

  • The two founders of gorillahippo. Both started out as set runners and have since worked in almost every role on set. They're hands-on on every project, so you won't be passed on to a junior team.

  • We have a core team plus a trusted network of freelancers, from DoPs and art directors to stylists, casting directors and location scouts. We put the crew together for each project, which lets us scale from a one-day shoot to an international production running several weeks.

  • TV commercials, fashion and lifestyle campaigns, automotive films, music videos, brand and corporate films, social media content, documentaries and photo productions. We work for global brands, agencies and independent creatives.

  • We take care of the whole production: creative development, location scouting, permits, casting, crew, equipment, logistics, on-set management and post-production coordination. You bring the brief, we handle the rest.

  • Service production is for brands, agencies and production companies from abroad who need a reliable partner in Germany or Europe. We handle everything on the ground, from permits and crew to locations, logistics and on-set support, while you keep creative control.

  • Yes. We've done everything from single-day editorial shoots to international campaigns running several weeks. We scale the team and resources to the project, not the other way around.

  • Both. We work directly with brands, with agencies as their production partner, and as a service provider for production companies from Germany and abroad.

  • Our service productions cover everything a fixer would do: locations, permits, crew and local contacts. The difference is that we take responsibility for the production as well, from crew contracts and insurance to budget and local accounting. You get one partner who is accountable, not just a list of numbers.

📋 Working With Us

  • It starts with a conversation about your project, your goals and where you need support. From there we can look at feasibility, budget and timeline, logistics, crew and casting, or risks. You get what your project needs, not a standard package.

  • Not at all. Early conversations are often the most useful ones. We can help you check whether your idea works with your budget and timeline, and which decisions you need to make next.

  • We consult on any production, whether or not gorillahippo is producing it. If you'd like an experienced second opinion on a project you're developing, we're happy to take a look.

🎯 Consulting

  • We're trained and certified in sustainable production, covering energy use, materials, transport, waste and local sourcing. We apply this to our own productions and advise other companies on doing the same.

  • Yes. Green production consulting is available on its own. We look at your current workflow, find the changes with the biggest impact and give you a practical roadmap, whether you're aiming for certification or simply want to make better choices on set.

  • Energy-efficient lighting and equipment as standard, eco-friendly materials for sets and props, local crew and suppliers wherever possible, hybrid or electric transport, as few flights as possible, and proper recycling on set. It's part of how we plan every production from day one.

🌿 Green Production

  • Send us a short outline of your project: format, scope, timeline and location. We'll get back to you with an honest assessment and a budget range.

  • As early as possible, especially for larger productions. We're also used to tight timelines, so if something is urgent, get in touch and we'll tell you honestly what's possible.

  • We coordinate post-production and bring in the right specialists for your project, such as editors, colorists, VFX artists and sound designers. For most productions we work with partners we know and trust.

  • German and English. On international productions, English is our default language on set and in communication.
